To troubleshoot common mechanical faults in highway guardrail roll forming machines, follow these steps:
Abnormal Noise
If there is a metallic friction sound in the transmission, check for excessive gear meshing clearance or wear, and adjust or replace them promptly. Abnormal chain noise is often caused by insufficient tension or poor lubrication and requires re-tensioning and lubrication. Abnormal noise and heat in the bearings may indicate ball bearing wear and require disassembly, inspection, and replacement.
Material Deviation or Jamming
Use a laser alignment tool to check the alignment of the mold rollers. If the deviation exceeds 0.2mm, adjustments are required. Check the angle and fixation of the guide rollers at the feed end to prevent material skew. If the roller surface is worn, resulting in insufficient grip, repair or replacement is necessary.
Forming Accuracy Lssues
Measure key mold dimensions. If wear exceeds 0.3mm, repair is required. Check the mold mounting bolts for looseness. Adjust the roll speed and pressure. Excessive speed or insufficient pressure can affect forming. Check the roll thickness to see if it is within tolerance.
Abnormal Vibration
Check for loose anchor bolts and recalibrate the machine body; perform dynamic balancing tests on rotating components such as rollers and flywheels; inspect coupling bolts and spring washers, and tighten or replace damaged parts promptly.
Hydraulic System Failure
If pressure is insufficient, check the connection between the hydraulic cylinder and the mold for looseness. If there is an oil leak, check the oil pipe joints and seals, replace damaged parts, and repair weld or replace worn or cracked oil pipes.
False Triggering of Shutdown Protection
Clean and calibrate the grating sensor if it is obscured by dust or misaligned. Check the contact of the emergency stop button and retighten any loose parts.
