What are the vulnerable parts of a rack roll forming machine?

Sep 23, 2025

The vulnerable parts of a rack roll forming machine are primarily distributed in the forming, transmission, guide, and auxiliary systems. Understanding these components facilitates timely maintenance and ensures stable equipment operation:

1. Forming System

The rolls are core vulnerable parts. Constant contact and compression with the sheet metal causes wear and deformation. Ordinary rolls have a service life of approximately 500-800 hours, while carbide-coated rolls can last over 2,000 hours. Shear blades are also highly susceptible to wear and tear, with the blades prone to chipping and blunting during cutting. Ordinary high-speed steel blades require replacement after 20,000-30,000 cuts, while carbide blades can last up to 100,000 cuts.

2. Transmission System

Gears and sprockets are prone to wear and breakage due to prolonged operation, and the chain may stretch. Replacement is required if the stretch exceeds 2%. Bearings can produce unusual noises and heat due to ball wear and grease aging. Vibration exceeding 8mm/s requires inspection, with a normal lifespan of approximately 5,000-8,000 hours. The elastic rubber pads in the couplings are prone to aging and are recommended to be replaced annually.

3. Guide and Positioning System

Wear of the anti-slip grooves on the guide roller surface can cause the plate to deviate. Replacement is recommended if the wear depth exceeds 1mm. Wear on the contact surface of the positioning plate or sensor failure can affect positioning accuracy. Adjustment is required if the error exceeds ±0.5mm.

4. Hydraulic and Pneumatic System

Hydraulic seals such as O-rings and oil seals are prone to aging and oil leakage. Any oil leakage requires immediate replacement, and a complete replacement should be completed every two years. Cylinder seals and solenoid valve spools in pneumatic components are prone to failure. Replacement is required if the cylinder stroke error exceeds ±1mm.

5. Auxiliary Components

Wear of the rubber coating on the feed roller surface can cause slippage. Wear exceeding 50% of the thickness requires replacement. The tensioner spring loses its elasticity over time, and if its free length decreases by more than 5%, it needs to be replaced to avoid affecting sheet tension.
